Ecover eco friendly washing

BritMums sent us some new Ecover Non-bio washing liquid to try. I must say I’d never even thought of trying anything other than Fairy Non-bio. Why? I was paranoid after I reacted to some other washing liquid when I was at school and had to suffer through a full day scratching away. I got home to discover I was bright red. Anyway, reading the blurb on the back of the Ecover bottle I was put at ease, it’s dermatologically tested, kind to sensitive skin and is now Mumsnet rated – 85% of Mumsnet users would buy it again, and 89% would recommend it to a friend. Ecover is a concentrated laundry detergent and so you get more washes for less liquid – and that also means more stains removed thanks to one small bottle.

As I have a new baby, a newborn who is 3 months old, I’m paranoid about her skin, her gorgeous new soft sweet baby skin. I don’t want anything to hurt her. I also have Toddler H, our baby girl, who is now, somehow almost three. She’s had lovely skin, always has, and I hope always will. I’d be devastated if she suddenly was affected by a washing powder, or something that I had control over. I thought hard about changing from our usual Fairy non-bio, the Fairy she’d always used and had never had anything else on her skin. It’s weird the things we think about as parents, the simple decisions we actually put a lot of thought into. Maybe too much thought. But, for me that’s something like washing powder. Anyway, Ecover sounded good, natural and dermatologically tested. A tick in the box meaning it was well worth a try.

We’ve been trying it for a few weeks now and I love the smell, it’s so fresh, so clean smelling and really is so clean. I’ve been relieved we’ve all still had lovely skin, no changes. Baby B has had dry skin which I’ve posted about on my Instagram as we’ve been trying Child’s Farm products to help her – but this has all been dribble related! I think she’s so like her sister, teething and constant dribbling from 3 months. She’s also just like her sister in that she can do a really good poonami. A poonami that stains. The difference is this time I don’t just throw out the baby grows, I know the Fairy Liquid trick. So after every poonami, I’ve then popped the baby grows in the washing machine on my usual 30C wash, and they smell gorgeous. No signs of a poonami stain at all. Our whites are back to being perfectly white. Perfect. Clean. No sign of a poosplosion. And best of all, we all have soft on our skin.

Toddler H has never had a skin problem, never a dry skin patch, never a need for moisturiser… other than wanting ‘special cream like mummy!’ And, after weeks of using Ecover Non-bio, she still has perfect skin. I know she’s lucky. Likewise, hubby and I haven’t noticed any change, just gorgeous fresh clothes. I love the smell, lavender and sandalwood, really are refreshing, it smells much more natural, just as Ecover state. I hate ‘false’ smelling washing.  I also love super soft washing, especially bedding, and all of our washing from the last few weeks really feels soft.

I’ve also noticed an extra #parentingwin… being mummy to a new baby and toddler, we’re doing washing every day. This tiny bottle of Ecover, which is 875ml will do 25 washes! Brilliant for our cupboard space and meaning my baby brain doesn’t have to remember to add washing liquid to the shopping list!
