Review: Ewan the dream sheep

Life with baby, Reviews

Before baby H was born we were given loads of advice, buy this, don’t buy that. 7 months on, we agree with some, aren’t fussy about others, and really should have bothered with the rest.

Ewan the Dream Sheep was recommended to us by several friends. So my lovely sister bought him for Baby H when she was born.

Description from Amazon:

  • “Effective tool for settling restless babies and toddlers into a peaceful slumber
  • Attaches securely to cot bars or can be placed next to your moses basket
  • Plays real heartbeat and womb sound combinations that mimic the noises babies hear inside the womb together with soothing pink glow
  • Choice of 3 further pink noise sound combinations, suitable for older babies and toddlers including rain, vacuum cleaner and harp music all combined with the heartbeat.
  • Take ewan on the go–attached to the buggy or car seat”

NewMummyBlog Review:
Positives

  • Comforting as baby H has known Ewan her whole life.
  • Works to an extent helping her to sleep – comfort, soothing sounds she’s used to.
  • Easy for baby to switch on – the buttons are embedded in the paws
  • ‘Womb’ pink light is soothing.
  • Has a loop for attaching to the cot/pushchair/pram – very useful as she always knows exactly where Ewan is in her cot.

Negatives

  • Range of sounds are very limited, free Apps offer more.
  • Volume is too low to ‘confuse’ baby to sleep, may work as comfort though when baby ‘knows’ Ewan.
  • Doubt it would calm and put an upset or crying baby to sleep.
  • Quite expensive for a ‘comforter’.

Some piccys of Ewan in action:

Cost: ?29.99 (RRP) You can buy Ewan?from?Amazon by clicking here: Ewan the Dream Sheep.

Verdict: 8/10

I’d say this is not a ‘must have’, the volume is too low for it to really work. An App like ‘whitenoise’ or ‘Relax MD’ works better – these have variable run length, volume and a pleathora of sounds from rain fall, waterfalls, thunderstorms, birds tweeting, streams, white noise.?However, H LOVES Ewan, she’s known him her whole life, she switches him on herself and has done since 4 months old, but he doesn’t put her to sleep, just provides comfort. She hears Ewan and knows it’s bed time, so in that way, he does work! She also wakes up in the night (and morning), and next thing hubby and I hear is one of Ewan’s sounds. Again, this is a massive positive as she either goes back to sleep or is quite happy to play for a while longer before shouting for us.

Disclaimer: all opinions are my own and Ewan was bought for us by a family member as a gift.

Great review – nice and honest. The picture of Ewan shining red does look a bit evil though! Anything that signals bedtime is a positive in my book! #bestandworst

      Thank you ?
We did think that he looked evil at first too, but I don’t think so now. It’s quite gentle, especially compared to some baby light up toys (we have a lullaby light up lamb too and it’s like a strobe light at at one point!)

Great review, we never had one of these but had a seahorse instead which we quite liked. I have to agree about the white noise app’s though, they’re ever so useful! Thanks for linking up to the #bestandworst 🙂

We had a Ewan for my girl and he was an absolute hero! I shall definitely be digging him out for this next baby. We didn’t try the white noise apps though so may give them a go, too.

I’d say both work well, the apps are good as the volume goes much louder so she can hear it over her crying. Thank you! Xx

Great review, we have this and have done since Monkey was tiny, he’s now three and it’s still in his room. He loves it. I’m not sure if it was responsible for his sleep habits or not but he was a really good sleeper going through at 6 weeks. However I haven’t really figured out a way to clean it other than sponging it down which after 3 years is starting not to be sufficient. It might be the end of Ewan in our household soon!! Oh poor Ewan! Yes, I really hadn’t thought of how to wash him 🙁 That’s really interesting he slept through from 6 weeks, H did from 5 weeks…. But the 4 month regression mucked it all up (we’ve been up multiple times a night since then)
Thank you for such a lovely comment X

We have a dream sheep and Ava used to respond well to the hearbeat. I used to help me get back to sleep too haha. Thanks for linking up to #PickNMix

Completely agree with this! My little one loves Ewan but I think it is more for comfort now as he has had it since he was tiny! My only negative was I did not think the music was that relaxing and if I pressed it by accident in the middle of the night it woke him!! The rain has been a very successful comfort!
