Quick questions:

1. Tell us about your business?

Mission: Mindfulness is a company with a vision to help young people and those around them to improve their concentration, emotional regulation and mindset by coaching them in aspects of mindfulness. The aim is to introduce the younger generation to mindfulness in a constructive and enjoyable way. By-products of mindfulness can be increased confidence, improved focus, better sleep, better management of test anxiety and lots more. I trained in May 2016 with the Mindfulness in Schools Project to be able to teach Mindfulness to 11 ? 18 year olds.
Another objective of the venture is to demystify mindfulness for the family and schools connected with the young people who we work with. I wish to help schools and other youth organisations to give our young people

?the tools – the character, the knowledge and the confidence that will let their potential shine brightly.?

2. Where do you deliver?

I am based in South-East London so can cover most of London. ?Kent and the surrounding areas are also easy for me to reach too.

3. Price range?

At the moment I am juggling the wish to help as many young people as possible be educated in Mindfulness with the practicality of covering childcare costs for toddler twins and an older child. This makes pricing tricky so I generally negotiate with the particular organisation I am working with. I always offer a free taster session to interested schools and other youth groups.

4. Why did you decide to start your business?

Good question as I really have a lot on! However, I am motivated by sharing the benefits of Mindfulness with others as it has personally helped me so much. Mindfulness may not be for everyone but if everyone has learned the basics they can choose if and when they ever want to incorporate its principles into their lives.
Also, I love working with children and young people and am very comfortable in a secondary school classroom as I am a History teacher 3 days per week. This means that, for me, this age group is the natural starting point for my business venture. As well as this I?ve observed first hand how exam stress is effecting more and more of the younger generation and would like to help to try and combat this in any way I can. I started to talk to a few students in school about Mindfulness and they were really positive about my advice and suggestions for coping strategies so it encouraged me to branch out a little and set up my own business.
Finally since returning to work after my second maternity leave last October I have found it increasingly tricky to juggle teaching a GCSE and A Level essay subject (and dealing with all the marking that this brings!) with parenting 3 little ones (including toddler twins) so I hope that by re-training I may, in the long-term, be able to find a better work/life balance.

5. What are your top tips to other mummy’s thinking about starting a business?

Go for it! I know it?s a clich? but find something you?re passionate about and share it with others. Don?t be shy – talk to other parents at the school gate about your idea and you?ll be amazed at who can help you and who has connections and links with others who can help you too. Good luck.

P.S Not to confuse matters but your readers may know me as @Mummy_mindful or have visited my blog at www.themindfulmummymission.com instead of the details above. Although there is obvious overlap with my blog and the business I like to keep them a little bit separate as I have slightly different personas for teaching Mindfulness and blogging about parenting and Mindfulness! However, both the blog and business feed into my over-arching desire to raise awareness about Mindfulness and show people that it is fairly easy to fit into our day-to-day lives. Ultimately it is this desire that motivates me to try and make a success of both

Mindful

Wow, I’m super impressed at running a business alongside working 3 days a week as a teacher! That’s real dedication there. It sounds like such interesting work though – I know that I’d have really benefited from something like this when I was a teenager. Thanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS. Hope you come back again next Sunday

What a fab business! I read a little about mindfulness when I was learning about hypnobirthing before the birth of my second child and think it’s a great concept. Best of luck to Hayley in her new venture! #KCACOLS
