How to shade a pushchair safely from the sun and encourage good safe naps - Snoozeshade
We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

So a few weeks ago I was struggling to get H to nap, the sun was shining and we were finding it quite hard. I knew in theory good naps mean better night sleeping and so this was something we had to tackle. My main method for getting H to sleep was either feeding her to sleep or her taking a bottle to sleep. Sometimes walking would work, but I could walk for an hour before she’d fall asleep, so having heard fab things about the Snoozeshade from friends, I thought it was worth a try.

Hubby bought us one off Amazon and it arrived the next day. I told him about it, like I do lots of things, but his quick ordering definitely meant he thought it was also worth a try!

So once it arrived off we went on our walk to the post office (just under 10 minutes from our house). This was the result….

Snoozeshade review - how to get baby to nap during the day and a safe was to shade a baby from the sun, without using a blanket

But, I was shocked this was within 5 minutes of leaving the house…. not only that, but I could still see our house! This had never ever EVER happened before. Not only that, but she slept for the next hour and a half. Again, an incredibly rare occurrence.

So I could have written a review based on that one experience, but no, I think everything needs to be used a lot before reviewing. We’ve now used the Snoozeshade several times a week for the last few weeks. So a good 15-20 times and I can very confidently say, it’s AMAZING. Only once, has it taken longer to get H to sleep…. Probably half an hour. So nothing major!

And some of the fab features of the Snoozeshade:

  • A zipped slit to sneak a peak at little one
  • Breathable mesh that stays really cool in hot weather
  • Lots of Velcro tabs to secure the Snoozeshade to any pushchair
  • Multi use – could be used to just shade legs or create a bigger sun canopy, or as a full cover

On the note of a full review…

Snoozeshade Review

Here’s the blurb from the Snoozeshade website:

We have the Snoozeshade Original which has a RRP of £19.99. There is also a Deluxe version which has some additional features.

Here are some more pictures:

The packaging is simple and it has lots of info on how to use it:Snoozeshade Original packaging
The packaging shows the different ways it can be used and also comes with a little storage bag too. Perfect for on the move! Though we have found it easy to keep on the pushchair sat up on the hood.

The Snoozeshade pouch? It’s so easy to fix onto he pushchair: just Velcro it round the frame!?Attaching the Original Snoozeshade to the Babystyle Oyster Pushchair

Why is a Snoozeshade better to use than using a blanket or muslin to cover the pram?

Blankets and muslins get incredibly hot, there is no where for the heat to go, they just trap the air inside the pushchair. The Snoozeshade is breathable. It also has the advantage of having a zip to peak a look at little one, and I sometimes leave this open so she can see, but is safely shade, in a much darker environment and much more likely to drop off.

New Mummy Blog Review Verdict:

100% recommended!

The Snoozeshade is a safe and welcomed way to get H to nap. It’s UV50 rated, is easy to use, fits any/most pushchairs as it’s simply a case of finding places to wrap the velcro around.

Update 30/06/2018:

Almost 3 years later, we’ve now used the Snoozeshade with H (who is now 3.5 year old), and her Baby sister, B, who has just turned one.

I’d now go as far to say the Snoozeshade is an essential during summer in the UK, especially during heatwaves and an absolute holiday essential. We’ve taken it on each of our European holidays and both girls have napped – a definite winner for us as parents, when else do we get to actually sit and read our books?!

Disclaimer: All opinions are my own and we bought the Snoozeshade with our own money.

If only I have known this before when my two kids were still babies, that could have helped a lot in making them fell asleep quick… Great review though! #AnythingGoes

I so nearly bought this when the boys were smaller. Because of the style of our buggy though, we’d have needed two standard ones and even with a twin discount it still worked out fairly expensive. Darkness — or no visual stimulation — is key to getting babies to sleep. We used to rely on covering the buggy with blankets! It really does look like a fab product — I wish it was a little cheaper for a twin/tandem package though!! Thanks so much for linking up with us xx #TwinklyTuesday

It is brilliant. I guess that is an issue, it’s a shame it was too expensive x

I really had to walk for an hour to get her to sleep sometimes so it turned out darkness was the key we were missing. Glad you didn’t have the same problem… It’s a bit of a pain sometimes! X
