New baby: thoughts, cuddles, gifts

I’m just home from a lovely morning of swimming and…. drum roll please… meeting my friend’s new baby. We went straight from swimming and spent almost an hour with her. She was looking brilliant, especially, considering she only gave birth less than two weeks ago never mind the fact she?has a toddler to juggle. They said that baby is not sleeping great at night, which doesn’t help them, and I can’t imagine how hard it is with a toddler too, but fingers crossed it will get better soon. We went with two other friends and their toddlers too. I loved my cuddles with baby, he’s just so cute. What I also noticed was, I was quite shocked that H didn’t get jealous. To be truthful, she didn’t seem to notice as she was too busy playing with all the ‘new’ toys with her friends. I probably could have left and she wouldn’t have noticed either. I had two cuddles with baby and he was just so scrumptious.

It’s funny how you forget the newborn scrunched up-ness, the facial expressions, the squeaks, the little noises, the eyes shut, the big eyes when they do open them, and of course the little sicky moments. But, what I really had forgotten was just how tiny they are. baby fitted right in my arms on my lap, teeny tiny, scrunched up-ness. Teeny tiny thin fingers with such minuscule?nails. And, how quite they really are. I remember when H was born friends telling us let right and centre how quite her cry was, and we did not believe them. Sorry, friends, we didn’t believe you one iota. But, you were so so so right.

I do have to mention the joint new baby gift our swimming group gave… this AMAZING Nappy Cake by Baby Creations

New Mummy Blog Newborn gift by Nappy Cake by Baby Creations ?It includes?a gift for baby, a gift for toddler (a book, not pictured), and importantly a gift for mummy (mummy time voucher) as well as some chocolates for mummy and daddy to enjoy (ok, keep them going!). These nappy cakes are so well presented, thoughtful and above all personalised! There was also a cuddly toy with all of baby’s birth details on which was the icing on the cake! I definitely 100% recommend Baby Creations for all your new baby gifts!

I say all that, how lovely it was, how cute baby was and it makes me think of how I’d love to have another child. Another little baby, a?little brother or sister for H to play with. A sibling for her to bond with, someone who will be there for her throughout her life. Yes, I know they’d fight too, but hopefully at some stage they’d get through that and be there for one another. Be there keeping their secrets from hubby and I. Them protecting us as we do our parents. But what will be will be and I don’t hold any expectations. I don’t really know how I really feel about doing it all again, and I say this because H is such a live wire, into everything, non-stop, learning constantly, and, at times incredibly clingy. Yes, she’d adapt, and so would we. But, for now I’m happy cuddling all my friends’ newborns. Happy that we’re soon off on our first plane holiday as a family of three. Happy we have more first still to do as a family of three. I’m incredible happy we’re as we are and so unbelievably happy for all my friends who are pregnant, who are expecting little ones soon and who’s little ones I will be more than happy to help with.

I think making the decision to add another baby is one of those things you can talk round and round, but if you’re going to do it you just end up diving in there before you change your minds in the end! I know that’s how it was for us. And now my littlest is 19 months and how I would love to have just one more… I’m sure I’d still be saying that if we had five! Newborns are lovely… But they’re very detrimental to sleep too ;). X #BloggerClubUK

Wow that nappy cake is amazing!!! Some people are so creative. I feel exactly the same as you about having another baby. As you say, there are still so many firsts to experience with Taylor and I don’t want to be distracted by a second. But at the same time I know it will happen when the time is right and I’d love to have two deep down. But oh, the sleepless nights all over again! I always think at least we have at least 9 months to prepare for it! xx #coolmumclub

Mother often looks at me with surprise in her eyes as if she can’t believe how much I’ve grown since I was a newborn.People told her that stage wouldn’t last very long and she realises now they were right. Incredible nappy cake, what thoughtful friends x#KCACOLS

    What a lovely post 🙂
I was thinking only today about how the kids have grown up so quickly and how quickly we forget the teeny tiny people they were.

    I love the nappy cake!

Lovely! We would like number 2 when Arthur is 2yrs old (he’s 16 m now) – but I have lots of worries: Arthur has never slept through the night and takes a very involved routine to get to bed at night. He still cosleeps from about midnight too. My husband works late and often works away, and we have no family to help with childcare or anything else nearby. In fact we have not even been able to go out for dinner just the two of us since having Arthur.,.all these things make me nervous! I know though, that If I wait for the right time it probably won’t ever come, so I should just jump in and deal with it as it happens !!! And Arthur would make a lovely big brother I am sure! #KCACOLS

Oh I just love the newborn stage. I remember feeling like a celebrity carrying my tiny new ones around the shops, as everyone looks at you (them) and says ahhh! They are so deliciously cute, which is just as well as they are so demanding! I would have another one tomorrow! I love babies!

Awwww, I’m doing the exact same thing you are! There’s a few people I know who have been having babies and its so wonderful because I get all the cuteness out of them and I can just squee over the fact that I LOVE newborns without having to deal with them myself (as harsh as it sounds, I still remember the extreme sleep deprivation!) I definitely want more kids, but holding off for now and enjoying the family of 3.

I often wonder about how I would cope after another child, but I think all parents wonder that and the fact is that parents just do cope in the end. A scary concept! Cute post #KCACOLS

I think you know in your heart when (or if) it’s the right time to have another baby. My son was 2 when I fell pregnant with my second, and that timing has been just right for us! x #KCACOLS

Wow, this is so cute and great both for a baby and a mummy. I always like such ideas when the baby plus both parents benefit from the present. Also I think the toddler kind of gets happier too :). Anyway, thanks for the great article!

Amazing ideas here, apart from all the gifts, I really loved being helped out in my household chores after my son was born. If someone cooks your meal, even that could be a perfect gift for the mom!
