The 6 mummy essentials in my ‘mummy kit’

After almost 17 months of being a mummy, I’ve learnt a few lessons. One, being mummy needs to look after herself. A few essentials should always be kept close at hand, slotted into the changing bag, beside the sofa, popped in a kitchen cupboard.

The Mummy Kit really is essential…

1) Hand cream

Hand cream is a must must MUST have. Why?

1. Nappies are terrible things, and you spend your waking and sleeping hours changing nappies, then, as the nappies trail off…

2. Weaning takes over and that involves washing your hand and dishes and picking up so much half chewed food you wouldn’t believe how many times you actually wash them, never mind the fact that…

3. Pram pushing exposes your hands to every element going. Well, if I’m honest, today we’ve had sun, rain, hail and snow… so this is a biggie, even at the end of April.

4. Remember the past… you used hand cream before you had baby and that was just doing every day stuff… so now it’s even more of an essential.

5. Mummy time – yes, that 2 seconds of smothering my hands in cream really feels indulgent. How sad is that!

2) Nail essentialsnail scissors, clippers, files – I’m constantly breaking nails, and scratchy nails are not good!

3) Tissuesyes, you have baby wipes and they work for everything, but tissues are good for mopping up too!

4) Hair bobblesyou go for that walk, and five minutes later realise you’ve been so intent on baby and the relief of being out of the house after half an hour of trying to leave, you suddenly notice it’s really windy and you can’t actually see.

5) Sweets or chocolateyou will need a little sugar rush between the walks, nappies and feeding cycles. The number of times lunch is ridiculously early, or late, or forgotten.

6) Hydrationyes, coffee, tea, squash, but water is a definite must have! A sports bottle makes it easy and also helps avoid spills – face it as a mummy you have enough to clean up!

What do you think? Would you add anything?

If you agree, please share this with any of your mummy friends, and your pregnant friends too 🙂 Thank you!

Yes to all of these, especially water and hand cream if you want to come out the other side of motherhood looking your age and not 20 years older. I find that a mini tin of Vaseline is great to have too -just as handy for chapped lips as it is for patches of dry skin on yourself or a child.

I carry most of these. Water is probably the one I couldn’t do without. Love the idea of the Club! I have recently tried to de clutter my handbag but didn’t actually get very far. Well you never know when you might need …. Thanks so much for linking up with #KCACOLS. Hope you return next Sunday 🙂

hand cream, hair bobbles and a cereal bar were my go-to items when my boy was smaller and we went out and about to baby groups. I’d always miss breakfast and the cereal bar would stop the shakes after my morning can of red bull :/ #KCACOLS

I never used hand cream until I became a mum, now my hands get so dry that I have to! I always have a tangle teaser to hand to tame my mane, rather than a bobble as I don’t like having my hair up. #KCACOLS

Oh my word it’s been so long since I had a Club biscuit I’d forgotten about them. Shame on me. Definitely with you on the snacks and water. Especially when breast feeding. I felt like the boob pump was leeching every drop of moisture out of my body.

This is a great list! I never used hand cream before children actually, but when I returned to work it became a “need”. Yes to the nail kit, oh man! Water, absolutely, plus it’s great for filling the children’s cups because seriously I love my kids, but no way am I drinking after them! EW backwash! ick! lol #KCACOLS

Bobbles definitely! I never have the others anywhere near me… but then I don’t usually even carry a handbag. I probably should carry things like this but I am a ‘remember to moisturize once a month and bite nails off’ kinda girl. I know, I’m a slob! 😉 #BloggerClubUk

Sounds like a great list. I’m already using heaps of handcream at 6 months pregnant and by all accounts that’s only going to get worse. Having water and a sugar fix on hand are already in my arsenal. Useful tip about nail clippers and hair bobbles too. #coolmumclub

Hand cream -check, nail file – check, tissues – check! My nails used to be nice and long pre-baby, but now they are short and neat as it’s way more convenient and safer. I also carry Carmex and some paracetamol! x #TheList

I clearly don’t care enough about my nails ha ha! Wouldn’t ever think of carrying the nail bits – but always bobbles and clips for the girls, a lip balm, and about 30 tampons ( I think I add one each month and never take any out hee hee!)

Really useful list! I’m definitely adding some nail scissors to my bag – I only realise my son’s need cutting when I’m out and he’s managed to scratch me but I’ve not got any to hand – then I end up forgetting! I have 3 pairs, I’m sure I can spare one for my #KCACOLS

Sweet is a good one – no harm to have a little bribery ready for action! I used to have chuba chub lollies in the bag – but sometimes the wrappers just won’t come off! And I’d only take the lolly out in emergency situations – so a wrapper I couldn’t get off & ended up trying to bite off just made it all worse! lol Thanks so much for linking up with #bloggerclubuk x
