Glass painting – paint your own wine glasses

It’s nice to try new crafts and try things out isn’t it? This is what I did about 6 years ago with glass painting, I decided to give it a try. I chose some cheap glasses and thought I’d give it a go and see what happened. Well, it was a huge success. Those glasses I painted so many years ago are the same glasses we’ve used daily for the last 6 years, dishwasher and all (you’ll probably have noticed them on my Instagram quite often.

 

Top tips for glass painting:

• Do a trial
• Paint upside down if it gives you a base to work down on (e.g. wine glasses like mine)
• Clean the glass well before starting
• Follow the instructions (that’s all I did!)

 

What did I use?

I used this Pebeo Vitrea 160 glass paint outliner which has a lovely glassy raised effect , it’s also really good for outlining designs. I love the raised effect on my glasses as it really feels like part of the glass.

I thoroughly recommend this paint as it really has lasted in the dishwasher for so many years (no fading, no chipping, no damage).

Start the design small and simple so if you make a mistake you can adjust your design to hide it. I chose to do spots as I could modify the design and size of them as I went (and if I made a mistake/slip).

 

How to use the Pebeo Vitrail Paint:

1.  I used the paint straight from the nozzle to get a raised effect, but I think you can use a paint brush or sponge to get other effects.

2.  I sat the glass upside down like this

3.  Then I did a starting spot on one side, followed by one across from it, using a piece of paper to mark the distance the spot should be from the stem.

4.  Then using a bit of paper I figured out how to make the other spots evenly spaced.

 

See, easy!

Pop over to Amazon and buy the same Pebeo Vitrea 160 Transparent Outline Paint I used, or into your local Hobbycraft (I don’t think they stock the same paint I used, but this Marabu paint looks very similar to the paint that I used, but I can’t say anything about how it’ll turn out or last!).
