We were very excited to be invited to the opening of Mr Mulligans in Cheltenham on Friday night. Each Mr Mulligans mini golf location has a themes, with the new Cheltenham venue being ‘The Lost World’. Having a 4 month old, who I’m exclusively breastfeeding, I had to take Baby B with me, but it was fab and hubby and I had a blast, it really felt like ‘us time’, something we’ve not had in a long long time. We’ve had the odd meal out these last few years since Baby B, but never done anything else. On to mini golf in the Lost World… Mr Mulligans Lost World mini golf is located in the Brewery, in the centre of Cheltenham. The Brewery has recently been undergoing a huge refurbishment and is now a magnet for all the eateries you could wish for, the cinema and now mini golf.
The Lost World
From the second you arrive at Mr Mulligans you’re immersed in the Lost World theme. Props in glass fronted bookcases line the staircase, while cogs and the moody atmosphere create a real Indiana Jones feel.
Upstairs, you can enjoy some food, drinks or even ice cream before starting your mini golf adventure. It really is an adventure, and you have the choice of two courses, Neptune’s Mist or Canopy Creek.
This is brilliant as you then have an extra reason to visit again.
We were invited to the opening night on arrival we were served welcome drinks and nibbles – the mini burgers were delicious, so I’ll definitely try a full size one on our next visit.
We chose to do the Canopy Creek course first and I was shocked to do the first hole in two goes. Beginners luck? Absolutely! It has been years since I played mini golf. Potentially 16 years when I think about it! Of course I steadily got worse as we went round, but did discover it’s definitely possible to play mini golf while using a baby carrier and while actually breastfeeding!
Three of the holes are actually in a darkened area and feature UV lights so your ball glows in the dark.
The Lost World theme continues through every hole, from a moving bridge across water to a volcano and a crashed airplane. We were told the airplane is actually a real plane, hubby is now blabbering on about how it had landing attachments and something or other… details, I definitely didn’t notice!
The attention to detail is fantastic. You can really see how it was 2 years in the planning, and such an immense project to get finished in time once it was actually in progress.
We didn’t get to try the other course, Neptune’s Mist, as we ended up back in the bar/restaurant talking to so many lovely people. It’s seems a lovely company to work for.
We attended the opening night which was invite only, however, It’s now open to the public, as of 10am on the 8th of October (2017).
We were advised it is best to book online so that you’re not hanging around waiting to play as numbers do have to be limited otherwise there would be huge traffic jams on the courses.
Mr Mulligans Cheltenham Mini Golf Verdict:
#newmummyblog 100% recommended
We had a lovely evening, so many laughs. We really recommend MrMulligans for a bit of fun, instead of the usual cinema or dinner or drinks. I think this is a very welcome addition to The Brewery and will be popular across so many age groups. I can’t wait to return with Toddler H!
