Smyths Toy Store Family Event May Bank Holiday 2017 – upgrading our toddler’s toys!

Life with a toddler

We’re excited about the Smyths Toy Store family event this weekend (Saturday 27th May)…

As I’ve mentioned we’ve been doing up our garden recently and so need to get a few more outdoor toys and upgrades for Toddler H. She’s got a Little Tikes cube slide which she does love, and I’m sure baby will love too, however, it is on the small side for her now she’s 2.5 years old. Her paddling pool is also now 2 years old (seriously, where has that time gone?!), and so really she’s a bit big for it, never-mind the fact that she spotted a lawnmower last time we were in Smyths and keeps talking about it.

Anyway, Smyths are running a Toy Event at all their stores this Bank Holiday weekend (Saturday 27th May) and we’re going to pop along, obviously unless baby makes an appearance! It sounds like a great family event with loads of things going on – even face painting, candy floss (pregnant mummy definitely will be indulging in that!) and even a DJ. H loves to dance now, so that should be fun, and might distract her from all of the thousands of toys she usually ends up moving along the shelves – sorry to everyone who works in Smyths! Obviously being pregnant I’m constantly looking for new ways to keep the toddler occupied when I’m exhausted, and up my sleeve for after baby arrives, so I’m quite excited to see what the free goody bag will include!  According to what I’ve seen, it will include My Little Pony/ LEGO/Play-Doh toys…. all HUGE winners with toddler H, and me in my ‘occupy-the-toddler-mission.’

This party is perfectly timed for us with the imminent arrival of Baby #2, our mission to occupy the todder for the summer, and, to keep us busy when it’s now meant to rain this weekend. Obviously the weather is not going to be nice all summer either, so we’ll be scoping out which other toys now appeal to our 2.5 year old. I think that’s the problem with having her birthday near Christmas, she gets all her presents then, and obviously changes an awful lot in the months that follow and different toys appeal. All of a sudden she now has a HUGE imagination. She loves playing with animal figures, people and well, dinosaurs, are found everywhere in our house, and her imagination! She loves making ‘people’ go in and out of her play house and so we really could do with as many different sorts of people and toys she can use to create scenarios. We do often give her a small half birthday present to combat the issue, so do need to look for that too. It’s all go!

There are also meant to be special guests such as Play-Doh, Shopkins Strawberry kiss and Oscar (Smyths Toys), although, I’m not sure how Toddler H will react to them, given she’s usually petrified of ‘characters.’ I’m sure the other kids will love seeing them though.

To me this is such a well timed event, somewhere indoors that toddler H will be occupied in the rain, and I can have candy floss!
